MGarito | Design | Barcode Lamp
This lamp is a hand crafted manifestation of one of the many simple things we take for granted in our every day lives, the barcode.
I choose to build this barcode lamp after having completed work on the Barcode Chair project featured in the furniture section of this site. This lamp thus can be consider in conjunction with the chair or as a stand alone pice.
The lamp itself is constructed of red wood ply-wood. This material was selected for its inherent strength as an engineered wood and its visual qualities, specifically when it transitions between soft white hues and soft red hues in conjunction with ambient light levels. Or by changing the light level of the lamp itself (it has three brightness settings).
One of the more challenging aspects of this build, was that each of the cables that attaches the main luminar to the mounting plate above is electrfied, as are each and every nut used to assemble the main luminar.
The profiles sections of the luminar are each then spaced by a 3/8" thread nuts, tightened into position individually to ensure vertical alignment of the profiles.
